Yoga > Mind – Body Therapy

One can easily learn to enhance the body's self-healing capacity.

Meditation is known to influence the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal (HPA) axis, sympathovagal balance, and probably lead to Oxytocin release. These have been associated with reduced stress, reduced cortisol, and enhanced wound and body healing. There are various studies on the effect of meditation on the HPA axis.

There are Yogic techniques that involve effortless practices such as progressive relaxation, chanting, guided visualization, suggestion etc. These culminate into triggering the meditative state or a state of silence and harmony.

Since these techniques reduce stress and induce a sense of well-being, one can adopt these to improve performance. Practice these for a few minutes or in bits and pieces to break a mind-body stress reaction (such as a headache or neck pain) at its very onset. Also, "re-programme" the existing stress sites (such as your lower-back or shoulders) that face the stress-brunt almost automatically.
